Club Volleyball Review For Laguna Beach Volleyball Club

The Laguna Beach Volleyball Club is an innovative college prep volleyball club, dedicated to the development of junior volleyball players aged 10 to 18. Available to aspiring college-bound junior players and to younger players just being introduced to the game, the Laguna Beach coaching staff not only focuses on the competitive nature of the game but also introduces the importance of the social aspects of the game like the building of friendships, sportsmanship, and also ethical play. For 19 years director Michael Soylular has been with the club and this year, like many years in the past, his teams are off to a winning start. In February 2010 in Vegas, the 17-1 team won the Open Division while the 18-2 captured a first-place finish in the Club division. Exactly one month later the 15-Wizard team qualified for the Junior Olympics by winning a bronze in the Open Division while the 17s went undefeated to win the Open Division. In April the 15s team finished first at the Northern Lights tournament while the 18-1s won their bid to go to the National Junior Olympics in Reno by finishing first at the Far Western Qualifiers. Volleyball players have the chance to try out for competitive travel elite teams or regional local teams. Starting in late November, girls can try out for 18s, 17s, 16s, 15s and 14s and under while in May, boys high school try outs are held for 17s, 16s and 15 year olds. Victorious Volleyball Teams and Players Accustomed to producing winning teams and players, the club had national championship squads in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and their alumni include past Olympians both male and female. Numerous players have earned college scholarships to educational institutions including: Alaska, Hofstra, Humboldt, Stanford, Baylor, Iowa, Arkansas, Texas A & M, James Madison, Boston College, Louisiana Tech, UCLA, MIT, BYU, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, CSULB, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Princeton, Oregon and USC just to name a few. In 2009, 16 seniors earned the possibility to play volleyball in college including: Brook Marino, Kenna Crouse, Natalie Hamill, Alex Palmer, Leah Sully, Kirsti Whitney, Lauren Bergold, Bojana Todorovic, Olivia Staffon, Jenny Martin, Taylor Cramm, Jessica Leek, Jessica Lopez, Christina Berry, Felicia Arriola. and Lean Sully. Volleyball Recruiting To assist in the recruiting process, LGVBC offers its athletes the option to have custom recruiting web sites created specifically for them. Volleyball Camps This summer Laguna Beach Volleyball Club will offer its 21st annual volleyball camp series. An extensive camp program starting in July, specific camps will be offered including Skills Camps for grades 3 to 8 and another one for incoming high school freshmen and sophomores; a setter's camp, a hitters/blockers camp, a libero/defensive specialist camp, and a High Performance and Elite camp offered to varsity and strong junior varsity volleyball players.
